I often try to have an OOF similar subect in the BG of my wildlife images. I think it adds visual interest, others may disagree. What do you think?

You captured exactly what you set out to do. I like it and I think the coloring works well in this shot.

Thanks,

Great juxtaposition shot! I like the effect a great deal and the light and pose could not be better.

Are they birds too?    They look alien to me! (no offense).

Love the colour, low-angle and well, the backgound (if you would call that) The alignment is just great.

Can't help but wonder what it looks like during in-flight.

Thank you for sharing.

Nice work Robert... I'd prefer just a smidge off the top. Nice light and terrific "line-up" with the IF Grouse and the OOF Grouse. Congrats on achieving the image you saw in your mind's eye. :) :)

Dale, I very much like it with the bird in the background but would want one alone that I'm sure you have as well. This one tells me that it is in a lek and that the bird is in competition with others. More of a story than a simple portrait. Beautiful light.

Excellent image. I am split on the bg bird. I like it for the story it tells about their presence within the lek, but my preference would be to isolate a single bird in this pose and light. An interesting post, thanks.

I think the technique works well here because the 2 birds are in such a similar stance, it's like a visual echo. I don't think it would work as well if the oof background bird was facing a different direction, for example. Anyway I like the technique and the result you've achieved here.

Beautiful light, low angle and comp. I hope you also got some single bird horizontals too.

I'd also like to see a shot without the bg bird, Robert!
