I wanted to try something a bit different (showing motion but not a pan blur) with my Bosque trip so I did this flash shot using 2nd curtain flash. I am a bit undecided if I like it or if it works. All comments welcome.

Canon 20D, 500mm f4, 1.4x, 550 EX flash with 2nd curtain sync.

Converted in BB, PS CS curves, saturation, USM and saved for web

John:

Great potential here, with blurs I would like a small part to be definitively sharp either the head or at least the eye.

I like it very much John !!!! Bird shows very well with good detail lovely bg and beautiful bird position !!!

If anything (and not a nit) would like to see the bird up/right a bit more. Do like it as is with no changes !!!!! 8) 8) 8) I like the out of the box thinking !!!!

I'd prefer panning blur with at least the important part such as the head sharp to give it an anchor ...

Out of the box, great ideas are found there and this is a perfect example of one. I like this.

I like the sense of motion created by the blur, but as with others I prefer at least the head/eyes to be sharp to pull me into the subject; would also like to see the bird placed more in the upper right corner. Just my two cents.

Very interesting image with the dark sky and blurred, ghosty bird. Wish the bird was more to the right in the frame.

John, like your "Out of the box" thinking. Not my cup of tea though!
