(Great Blue Heron) Bosque de Apache, New Mexico

I found this Heron strutting it's stuff while doing one of the many loops I made around the refuge in my car. I took this with the 200-400 since it had been doing well allowing me to frame as I needed to when the opportunity arose. In this case, it didn't really help since I was at the lenses limit anyway.

I might get around to posting a Snow Goose or a Sandhill Crane eventually but I have a few more species to go through first. :)

Resting on Window frame Nikon D2H, 200-400 AFS VR, TC-17EII, 680mm, ISO 200, Manual, 1/1000 @ F8. Cropped about 10% and leveled.

Tony, I like the warm colors and determined appearance of the bird. Nice and sharp, too.

What I like about this shot is its low shooting angle, Tony!
Clean bg and sharp ...

I also enjoy the low shooting angle on this. Nice soft lighting as well.

This was taken at 11:24 am. I'm not doing a day at this year so I didn't mention the time.

The "softness" of the shadows is due to some post processing work in Nikon Capture using the DEE tool and the LCH tool. The low shooting angle was because it was on the opposite side of a channel and walking on the ridge.

I love the angle and I too saw them at Bosque...It seemed like we saw the same one everyday perched high in one tree past the farm deck on the right. Never saw one like this...Great capture! :D

I like the mid-stride pose Tony. The feather detail seems a bit pasty, I also wish he was standing on something different than what looks like a path. Overall though, it's a nice shot.

A different than normal Bosque bird. I did see a few of them but never took any shots of them. I do like the look of determination it has.
