Another fulvous whistling duck from Crandon Gardens, Key Biscayne, Florida. I'm gonna miss this place when the ducks leave...

Pete,

I like this shot a lot; the colours, contrast, and saturation really give it a "painted" look. The soft water and reflections help that impression, as does the soft feather detail on parts of the duck. I'm assuming he was ruffling his feathers, yes? That would also explain the pose, which looks like he's floating in an unnatural position. I have to imagine he's standing on something, since I can't see his feet.

This was at the edge of the pond where it is very shallow so he was wading at the time.

Alex, would you believe I saw 2 adult sandhill cranes at Crandon this morning...shot a whole roll on them...they must have been visitors...

Pete,

I see his feet now... chock it up to viewing a laptop LCD outside.

Water is beautiful and offsets duckie well. May need a hit of USM, not sure. Wish I had seen Crandon Park when I was there last December...bummer!

Good job and keep documenting that place for us!

I'm not Alex, Pete, but the cranes are regular residents of Crandon Park. You probably saw the youngsters that hatched last year and look the same as adults. An easily visible but unphotogenic nest was in the back section of the park at that time.

BTW, nice shot. It would have been better to avoid the bright area in front of the duck.

Very colourful image, I agree with Brian, it looks like a painting. Sandy's comment on the bright area I concur with.

Like the colors and what a great duck. A head turn and finding a position to get rid of the bright spot in the bg would help.
