Hello again! I concentrated on flight shots for a good portion of the time last weekend at the Alligator Farm, especially using flash to light the underside of the birds. The 300mm IS lens I bought must have been defective because the AF was horrible, but Al lent me his 400/5.6 which worked like a charm! Thanks Al! I like this one even though its not a whole bird shot. What do you think?

Canon 1D Mark II, 400/5.6L, Incident f5.6 at 1/800, ISO200, Flash at high speed sync in manual mode at full power. Handheld.

Love the shot. If you had just clipped the wings, then it would look like a miss rather than this hit. The color and detail are exceptional.

It was great to meet and shoot with you this weekend.

I think it's great as presented. Your use of flash is just right and compo is very pleasing. Nice meeting you.

I like this, the truncation works for me.

Sorry to hear about your 300 f/4. That was nice of Alfred to loan out his 400! :)

I think the color/detail/sharpness and lighting are excellent. Bet you wish you were shooting some vertical flight shots at that moment. :) Might have clipped the head then though, that would not be good.

Matthew,

Very nice. I like the framing the way you have it presented. The colors look great, especially the red eye.

Sweet shot Matthew. All that work focusing on one type of image, flight shots, really pays off. The flash worked nicely for you. Love the tight crop.
