Shot on May 1st at the Montreal Botanical Gardens - saw this heron in the reeds and watched him for a while- and suddenly he dunks into the water and in a split second is up again with this huge red fish which he swallowed in one big gulp - I clicked and clicked - camera was not fast enough for me but I did get one shot!

It looks like you have a poacher in the goldfish pond. It's an interesting shot to say the least. I just wish there weren't so many reeds in front..at least in front of the fish. I think you did very well given the surroundings and circumstances.

Years ago my neighbor made a 15 square foot little pond with waterfall and filter which he filled with goldfish. One day a GBH came along and ate them all. Somewhere there is a lesson in all of this. Good photojournalism.

hehe Fero - that must have been me - are you the handsome tall blond man with tons of equipment, and a large tripod that I saw at the botanical gardens and then in the metro on your way back in the afternoon. Well yes, it was me, and I did find the heron, and spend at least an hour on it, and filled up two compact cards - Do you like the image?

Yes I have a largo tripod, but am not sure about handsome part ..... I was probably totally sunburnt. The photo is great. I have spent an hour with the heron too. Today morning was an amazing wave of warblers, about 6 species, mostly yellow-rumped, but I saw also Parula, BW, BTB, Palm, and others. I am about to go there again. Ihave some herons from BOO here, if you want to check:

I like this shot because of the reed and the mute colors except for the fish. Nice catch

It may be a little busy but it tells the story. The bird and fish are sure sharp and stand out well against the reeds. Welcome to NSN. Hope to see more from you soon.

Great action shot, and both the GBH and fish have a sharp eye. Neat.
