Reed Bunting (Emberiza schoeniclus)
This old world Bunting is sometimes tricky to exposure for whites and blacks. This time the light was favorable for exposure without correction. They are singing on the reeds actively right now.

Photographed 15th April 2004 in Helsinki, Finland.

Canon 10D + Canon EF 500/4 IS USM + TC 1.4

Iso Speed: 200
Exposure: 1/400
Aperture: f8.1
No exposure compensation

USM, levels, slightly cropped.

Just a little too centered for me, but it works just the same. The light is very nice. Love the habitat.

Stunning image! I agree with Wayne about it being a little too centered. Nice perch and bg.

What a beautiful little bird that matches the phragmites so well! This is one of my favorite combinations. At the same time, the bird blends in with the reedy BG. You may not have had any choice at all, but a step to the right might have opened a touch of plain BG that would let us see the profile better. On the other hand, it might be possible to move the bird a little off center with a crop and bring up the beak with PS or other editing program to show a little more contrast.
