Pied Billed Grebe

Took this sweet looking Grebe last Saturday at 6:00PM at LaSalle Park. The sun was getting low enough to create some shadows across the water and the Grebe as it moved. It was extremely cooperative; there were three of us, Ken Newcombe, Clemens Nolke & myself, diligently shooting.

It came so close at times we were concerned at being able to focus. For this shot the Grebe just headed straight towards me, making the shooting angle higher that I expected as it was so close.

All comments invited.

10D, 500 + 1.4x
1/200 @ f8, ISO 200 Incident light metered.
Cropped 10% on the left to position the bird in the frame
USM 100 after downsizing.

This is superb Lat! Wonderful shot with excellent detail right down to the water drops on the feathers. Perfect DOF and blue silk for water. No Nits at all. Excellent shot!! 8) 8) 8) :)

Great job here. Usually theses birds are not this big in frame. Usually these birds are very coontrasty. I see you captured this is partial shade. Very wise move.
