Red Lechwe

Okavango Delta, Botswana 2003.

EOS30, Sigma 100-300 F4 + 1.4TC,

I just had to include this shot in this week's motif - its the only running shot I've got so far! Hopefully when we return to Africa this year I can get some more. :) This is a pretty common sight in the Delta where the Lechwe run for safety into the water - little do they realise that the Lions swim out here!!

All comments and critiques always welcome and appreciated and thanks for looking.

I love it! Was there another one running in front?

My only nit, and it's minor, is that the eye is at the same level as the border bwetween the marsh and the grass.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: there's just something about shots with significant amounts of nicely saturated red, green, and blue... I always love these shots, and yours is no exception.

Thanks Paul, yes there were two of them and I was so excited I followed the first one through the viewfinder and just calmed down enough to grab this shot of the second one as he raced behind his mate! :)

Carol,
Lovely photo. The action, the frozen water droplets, the linear arrangements of color with the almost on-fire grasses behind make for one exceptional image. Congrats.

Wow, neat shot. This one has lots of energy with the water droplets and the position of the animal's legs.

This one looks like it is really moving. The crisp droplets are a plus, and one is left to think about what must have touched down a fraction of a second before to make the left splash. Lots of interest in this shot, and ohh ohh ohh, that D30 color!

Canon perhaps should have called the D30 the DVelvia. :)

Carol,

Great capture. Never got close enough to get this shot when I was in Botswana. I'd consider a slight CW rotation to correct the impression he's running downhill.
