In California I was able to photo coots for the first time. This fella was swimming around a concrete dock in a park, and it was difficult maintaining focus- he was pretty quick! But I got a few sharp ones, and I like the color and texture of the water here. Bill is not as hot on the slide as it looks here. Slight crop from full frame. Your thoughts? Thanks for your continued feedback as I try to improve my photography!

I like the water -- image looks a bit overexposed.

Nice Coot!!!

Image:
They are pretty hard to expose, if the beak is right the feathers are a lump of darkness or vice-versa, Here I like the water, nice detail on the bird and as a pano will work well also, Congrats!! 8)

I like the water and colors, Matt. The image looks a little too contrasty. If you added contrast, you might consider re-editing with less. Or, if you are using Photoshop CS, try the Shadow/Highlights adjustment to balance the detail in the black plumage and the white bill.

These are tough birds to get a good exposure on and the harsher the light, the tougher it gets.

Very nice shot. I would crop a little off the right and top.

Very nice water and coot.
The whites of the bill are a little over but too bad.
Nice shot!

Thanks for the comments so far, I appreciate it. The slide is much better as far as exposure- it has good detail in the blacks and the whites. Wayne- no contrast added. Thanks!

Nice shot. These guys are tough because of all the black and then the white bill. I tad less exposure to save the bill would make it even better.
