Numb fingers and toes to capture this photo early this morning near Lake Placid, NY. Canon 10D, 100-400, on tripod, IS off, fill flash with Beamer.

Needed this species for a project but the editor doesn't want snow in the photo. I'm fine with cloning out a branch but removing the snow from this photo is an obvious no!

Jeff

This is one of my favorite species. We get them here in Minnesota up in the bogs of Aitkin County, and to hear them call - like a Black-capped Chickadee with a cold - is really cool.

I like the colors and the texture in the image. My only minor nit is the OOF white object by its head and beak.

Well done!

Regards,

Terry

Wow! This is gorgeous!
If this was a RAW file, I'd be tempted to try a linear conversion and see if you can tone down the bright snow on the left.
Beautiful noise-free CMOS background too :)

Jeff -

This is a killer shot of a species that I have seen very few good shots of, snow or no snow.

Congrats!

Excellent shot. The bright area on the left is my only nit.

Great image of this fluffball, Jeff!!! Details are just marvelous!!! I agree with Bill on the bright area to the left. I'd sure love to see this gem in person ... your shot is the next best thing!! Thanks!!! 8) 8)

What an adorable little puffball of a bird. I like the snow on the branch- somehow it seems fitting for this species! The bright area isn't that objectionable to me.

This is a wonderful pose and setting for this guy. I'd definitely try to tone down the left as this is such a great shot.

Excellent, Jeff. The white area in the BG provides a nice contrast to the profile of the head. I'm not sure removing it would be helpful.

Sweet bird. Beautiful setting. I like the bright patch behind the head and beak, if it was dark the you would not see the beak :!:

Sweet little nothing of a feather ball!!

Image:
The nits have already been mentioned, for me just a hair more fill-flash, this might have tone down the OOF BG bright spot and lightened the bird just a hair!!,S till nice as is!! Congrats!! 8)

Beautiful portrait of an endearing bird. Fine detail. The white area behind the bill is fine. Darkening the OOF white snow would be nice.
