I made another trip to Conneaut Harbor, Ohio this past weekend. It's a 6 hour trip but it's also the closest place with shorebirds for me and the last chance that I would have to go. While it rained like crazy at home I had some sun up there. I've learned that when the light there is bad...it can be very bad but when the light is good...it can be very, very good.

There was a Marbled Godwit that stayed both days. I spent several hours during the day trying for shots but the light was poor and he remained in a dirt area which was very unattractive. Then the sun came out in the early evening and for a brief time he ventured into a different area with beautiful water and light. I have several good shots but I liked this one best. It was definitely worth wallowing in the muck, even with the cool temperatures (52 degrees one morning).

 Lana, that is gorgeous! The water droplet on the bill is killer. Very nicely done - excellent work.

Lana,
I would say the long drive, the wait, and the mud wallowing were all worth it. This is an excellent image - in all respects.

Lana, Real neat image. I guess I'm spoiled by the warm weather in Florida.

Hi Lana,
It's good to see that you did so well at Conneaut again! This is a nice one for sure, but I think it needs a big boost in both saturation and contrast as presented here. The water color looks OK, but the bird itself is lacking in the warm vibrant tones characteristic of this species.

Also - double check on that spelling

For some reason my pictures don't have the same saturation and contrast when I post as what the original jpg looks like since moving to NSN. It's hard to judge how much to add before posting. I boosted both this time but guess I should have isolated the bird and added a little more. I almost blew this shot shooting with EV -1/3 as the sun came out so I might have lost a little there to begin with.

As to the spelling....thanks for correcting me. The day before I knew how to spell it.......the mind is the first to go!!!

Lana,

This is great. What a beautiful pose and I love the water.

Was that you there on Sunday afternoon? I was the guy with the white lens on the other side. I saw the Godwit land by you as I was leaving. What a magical place.

Very nice Lana. You weren't wearing a Nebraska sweatshirt by any chance were you? I was there Sunday morning talking to Jay when you came up? I went back up to McD's then came back from through the fragmites(sp?). I only got this bird in the ugly stuff. Did you get anything on the buff-breasted?
