Captured last December at a nature reserve here in Hong Kong was this Coot. He was making sure you don't miss his tongue ...

He may be Eurasian, KK, but he certainly is giving you the Bronx cheer. Fine action. Whites a hair over.

KK, this is nice. love the water, the low profile and the open bill puts it over the top.

Very nice with open beak. You did very well with the blacks, I find them impossible :!:

Whites are just a smidge hot, but not enough to detract from the image, IMHO. The behavior aspect is great. I love the separation of the tongue and beak. You might think about a slight rotation to the right.

I will have to differ from the others here. The whites are fine for a coot since a coot has no detail in its white areas so this is one time where I think sacrificing a bit of the highlights to get detail in the dark body as you have done here is the best choice. Very well done.

Cool Shot! 8) I don't know what he is saying, but I don't think it's a friendly greeting.

Thanks EJ!

This black and white subject is a nightmare to expose. The white beak as is still retains some pinkish color when viewed from my CRT monitor. So I think it has not burnt out so to speak.

I guess you said "arrgh" and when he repeated the same, you hit the shutter, right? :)

Excellent shot.

Thanks Griffin!

The fact that I got the shot suggests that it must have been the other way round ... You know how very slow the 10D is, right?!

Coots are difficult to shoot due to the exposure.....you did great.
Add to that the open bill/tongue and I'd say you did one heck of a job!!

I feel the pain, KK. I was back from a TBT yesterday (Jan 25) with a lot of in-flight "targets" overhead. It should have been great but -- well, I shall post one or two when they are ready.
