Hello Everyone,

I took this picture yesterday (January 20th) on the shore of Lake Ontario in Burlington Ontario. I have very rarely seen these guys on shore, never mind close enough to photograph.

Cannon 10D, 100-400mm. 1/200, ISO-100, F-8.0. Handheld.

Brandon, good to see you post again. This is a tough shot to get. You did very well. maybe getting down lower would give you a more intimate view of this great bird. Is that a candy wrapper next to the bird? I'd clone it out.

A lower shooting angle would've helped but otherwise very nice. If that yellowish object next to the leaf is a candy wrapper I too would clone it out. The only shots that I have of this species are dots in the distance.

cheers, Oliver

Very nice shot. I agree about a lower shooting angle but sometimes that isn't possible. :D

Brandon:

I agree with the angle suggestion. I do not think is a candy wrapper, looks more like a dry leaf.

Brandon, Seeing this duck out of water is mighty unusual. Wonderful capture, and I like that the BG blends so nicely!!
