An old shot to celebrate the resurrection of my Maxtor external drives! I moved both drives to my new computer, and both work there, so the problem must have been a loose firewire card, or loose firewire sockets, in my old computer. Wish I could say I used the recovered scan, but in truth, after seeing my previous effort, I decided to do a new one. Shot from a Wimberly head on a Kirk window mount, from a Jeep parked in Jeep-high brush a good distance from a favored, high perch (so as to minimize the angle). This is a male carrying a small vole in his left foot to present to his mate (in midair) as part of their courtship. Edinburgh, TX, 4-24-98, EOS-1n, 600mm f4L (non-IS), 1.4x, 1/750, f5.6 (spot reading from slightly lighter than neutral tree bark), Velvia at 80 and pushed one stop, full vertical crop from the original, out-of-the-mount horizontal.

Beautiful light and love the eye contact. The low light angle really helps define the underwing. Very nice.

Lovely blue sky. Sharp eye, clenched feet and good feather detail make this a great image.

What a cool-looking eye on an equally cool bird. Hope to see one sometime, and capture it as well as this.

Totally sweet, Cliff. You captured that red eye so well. Nice dialog with the image.

A real keeper -- I don't like harsh shadows but the eye in this catch is excellent.

Absolutely gorgeous and an excellent shot!

Now if it hadn't been Velvia pushed you might have some detail in the far wing :P

Really nice. This is one instance when I think the lack of detail in the lower wing actually makes the image better by helping to emphasize the eye.

A beauty, Cliff. The eye grabs me - it is positioned nicely in the frame.
