One of my goals this year was to get close enough for a portrait of a Goose. On the morning of 12-4-03, at the farm fields in the northeast corner of the refuge, several SG began landing closer to the road than the rest and I approached carefully. Full frame. I'm not crazy about the bg but they are there for the corn so I can't really complain. I cloned out a couple of bright stalks going through its bill and neck.

I know these guys. They are very accommodating.

I like this shot very much. You handled the tough exposure very well.

Nice shot! Good exposure and excellent detail in the white feathers. Thanks for sharing.

With all the geese around this should be an easy shot to get, but after two years of visiting Bosque in early winter, I don't think I have one yet.

You did pretty well with the background here, some stalks are still evident but aren't a huge distraction. The neck and head of the goose appear quite white, but this seems to taper off to a "V" at the base of the neck and the body appears to have maybe a bluish tint to it. Or I'm seeing things, it has been a long day.

Wish I had a good head shot, you did extremely well especially considering the cornfield wasn't too far away. I struggle with getting the appropriate DOF for relatively close backgrounds.

I don't have a head shot of a SG either. This is very nice. You did very well with the background.
Congratulations!!

You did very well with this one....and succeeded where most of us failed...or gave up. I think you did exceptionally well with the BG....I'm like Heather.....I struggle with the DOF on shots like these. Very nice job with this one.

Mike,

This is a very nice portrait. Well exposed with excellent detail. I like the background. The typical Bosque colors help the goose to stand out from the background.

You didn't mention your aperture but whatever it was, it was perfect for the conditions as the DOF is superb.
