(Sandhill Cranes, Snow Geese) Bosque de Apache, New Mexico

This is intended to be about a month long series of images from my two weeks at Bosque. My intent is to make the images flow as though they all occurred during a single day. Of course, they occurred during the two weeks I was there. :)

This is the fifth in the series. You'll find 3 & 4 in the EHK Gallery. I also plan on posting 6 tonight in Landscape.

I didn't get the high mountain in the background on this image but I really liked the birds in the foreground. The solution to the dull background was to remove it entirely and give myself a nice panorama of the birds. The title is from the movement of the foreground snow goose, I really like the effect I got.

We are still about 20 minutes before sunrise and about 25 minutes from when the sun will first appear above the mountains.

Tripod/Wimberly mounted Nikon D2H, 70-200mm AFS VR @ 140mm, ISO 400, Aperture Priority, EV-0.3, 3 secs @ F16. Leveled and cropped to about 85% original width.

I can't believe how sharp those SHCs are. The streaked goose really makes this unique.

Excellent!!

So the goose just stopped there for the end of the exposure? Very cooperative. Great effect.

No, actually, I think an adult swam behind the juvenile which was stationary and the shot just happened to end at the right time. 8)

Serene. Despite the movement of the swan, I like the stillness of the image.
