A nice catch of seaweed that is.. . I like the bigger version of this much better.. there are tons of water droplets showing that he had been skimming earlier. Anyways.. Taken at Stone Harbor.

P.S. - I don't think the 20D's AF is up to a lot of tasks, but I think my flight shooting technique really improved during my visit to Stone Harbor. I was finding that I could nail shots I previously thought I couldn't, and I think it was thanks to better coordination in keeping the subject lined up perfectly w/ the chosen sensor. So, if you're not happy with your camera's AF.. just keep at it and your flight shots will improve regardless of the camera.

P.P.S - i'm still getting a 1d markii soon.

420mm

ISO: 400
AF mode: AI Servo AF
Drive: Continuous: frame 1

~90% of full frame.

Not much of a catch for the skimmer, but a great one for you. Great control of the exposeure!

The exposure is incredible, Chris, as is the flight shot!!!!!!!! Yes, practice makes perfect and don't be afraid to experiment. It's only pixels.

Sweet! Love the sharpness and water droplets. I did not know flash would reach anywhere at that speed. Very good on the techno. Killer pose! :)

Like the light on the leading edge of the wing. Nicely done.

Super shot, Chris. I agree with your thoughts on the AF ability of various cameras. When I had a D60 I was able to get some great flight shots.

Nice shot Chris! I like how how the skimmer is frozen in time. And I agree with your comment on equipment. It's always nice to have the latest and greatest, but it can't beat technique and time in the field.

Nice detail in the underside of the wing. And the eye's catchlight is wonderful - something that is missing from so many skimmer photos.

Great shot again Chris. Wonderfully sharp. Re-affirms my faith in the 20d :D

I see that you used flash again in this shot. Are you using it for all your flight shots these days?

You did extremely well with this closeup flight shot, Chris!
Looks like you don't really need a 1D2 after all ...
