Steve,
You certainly stopped the action smartly here as these birds are not easy to approach and capture. The image looks a bit flat and the background a bit grainy for 200 ISO. Not my favorite perch but I'd take it in a heartbeat to get a nice kingfisher.

Good shot, Steve!
Would have worked better if there was some seperation between the bird and perch. White is hot but that could be due to the scan itself ...

The grain and overall light do look a bit strange ? Action sure makes up for it !!! Congratulations !!!!

Nice action but the image looks like it needs a bit more post processing, the scan has a strong color cast and the detail is not there.
