I saw this a few times but only one shot of this and one acting like a skimmer.

I like the painterly feel of this.

1D2, 100-400 @400, 1/1000 @ f11, ISO 800, handheld from kayak.

Comments and suggestions welcome.

Lovely image Eleanor, timed to perfection with the beak hitting the water and great wing position.

Find the vertical that runs through the right wing a little distracting.

How sweet, I'm sure it a cross between a Tern and a Skimmer

Beautiful capture, Eleanor. These are very difficult to pull off but you've done it to perfection. Central placement works just fine here IMHO. Well done.

Excellent Eleanor... behavior I've seen often and not been able to capture (maybe I need to buy a kayak  ).

Very nice job catching this behavior. I have seen Elegants dip and drink a few times but have no images of it.

I'd much rather the vertical reflection wasn't there, but catching the action at the perfect moment makes up for it :D

A very difficult one to get, Eleanor. Spent the day watching Terns doing this in the heat on Saturday.
Great work - Cheers :) :) (I love this new emoticon).

I find the one area going through the right wing a little distracting but still a really beautiful image Eleanor! Great timing! 8)
