Probably one of my two favorite subspecies of hummingbirds along with the Pufflegs that i've been fortunate enough to see are the Hermits. They have such cool facial patterns and wonderful tails. This is the only one i've yet been fortunate enough to photograph, though i've seen 4 or 5 other species in Ecuador and Brazil.

Canon Eos20D, 70-200mm f/2.8L USM, f/20, 4 flashes on manual.

KK: To make sure the whole bird was sharp. When you are this close, depth of field is short. Most hummingbird shots are taken between f/16 and f/25.

Perfect in every way. I really like the BG on this - it gives the image a real "jungle" look. :D :D :D

What a fabulous shot of a really cool bird. How I'd love to see this, let alone get a perfect image of it.

Great shot of a very interesting bird. Never seen one before but must agree one of the most interesting of the hummingbirds.
The bird really jumps out against that dark BG.
