Hi All, This was the most cooperative species at Magee in May '02. This May they were a little less accomodating so I was happy to get this one.

Eos 1v, 500mm IS, 2x II TC, 550ex w/ Better Beamer, Velvia 50 +1. Very slight crop from top, bottom and left, a little more from the right. One small bright spot cloned from branch in lower right.

Metering for warblers can be a trick as they are constantly changing position and the changing tonality of the BG influences the reading so much. Then they hop from sun to shade. I've found it easier to shoot in manual mode. If the warbler stays in constant light I fire away, if it hops into a shaded area I either switch to flash as main light or select a slower shutter speed if it is not a deep shade situation.

Thanks for looking and for your honest critiques.

Good Birds To All!

BZ

Great detail in the little guy. In a perfect world, you would have gotten the left hand leaf in the corner so that the entire right and leaf would be in the frame. The techs look right on. :D

Brian, This is sweet. The bird looks great. I would crop down a bit and take a bit off the left making the bird larger in the frame and removing some of the OOF light brance in the UR corner.

In addition to the above, your use of flash is very nice. I see minimal evidence of its use, not bad.

Definitely a cute bird . :)

Nicely done BZ. I do wish the tip of that leaf on the right was entirely in the frame. :P

Brian,

Very nice shot. The colors look great and the exposure is on the money with the subtle use of flash. The pose couldn't be better to see the chestnut side. The out of focus branch in the upper right corner catches my eye a little, but not that bad.

Brian, The warbler is posed beautifully for you. The UR corner branch and bright spot could be cloned.

Wow. This is a great view of how this guy got his name. While some of the cloning and cropping suggestions seem good, I know I've read you don't love that type of the post production work. :) I think this is great!
