Vermilion Flycatcher (Pyrocephalus rubinus)

Although not a perfect perch , this is his preferred spot, I guess because it's a lot easier to watch for predators and prey, As skittish as he is, I don't think that any one is going to sneak upon him!!, I am sure that with a blind and the use of a tripod his captures could have been a lot better, but with camera and lens resting on a monopod, and the wind blowing my aim all over the place, I, even surprised myself with this semi-decent image!!(I am not being cute)
D1x, Raw, Lens=400mm afs-f/2.8 + 2X, FL=800mm, Incident metering, 1/1000sec SS-f/5.6 EV=0, ISO=200, WB=Auto, Flash in [FP] Mode!!

Alex,

A great looking bird. Hasn't Jill found some synthetic wood branch to put over these darn wires.

Lovely bird. I would love to have something 1/10 as good as this. 8)

Alex,

I agree with you 100%. I even complained awhile back about Murphy showing up and messing my next image, and Alan complained about taking his name in vain.

Nice catch of this guy, especailly given the shooting circumstance. Perhaps you get Mr. Murphy to license you to use of one of his perches.... the typical one-time use US license.

Hi Alex,
I think you are being too humble. This is terrific.

You are being quite humble with this one. I'm with Bill...I'd love one that was 1/10th this good. Of course for me, 1/10th would mean that I had only the tail showing as it had flown out of view. Excellent work...you shoot them where they're at...this is what he prefers. If it's good enough for him, it's good enough for all of us. A beautiful image of a rare bird....with the help of another rare bird...Jill.

I have only gotten a glimpse of one of these during a fleeting moment in the air...what a treasure to see it perched here. Flycatchers seem to just love wire perches, easily overlooked - the bird is getting all of my attention in this image, anyway. :)

Hey Alex, There would be no lawsuit. Guido has switched sides and works for me now. I'll just send him. :) Tell you what, I'll trade you. You supply the Flycatcher, I'll bring the perch. How's this one?

Alex, You're in the process of making this morsel famous! He's awfully handsome now and, hopefully, we'll revisit him this winter when his plumage is fully vermilion!! I love being able to see him again and again in my personal gallery. Thanks, my dear friend. Meanwhile, Alan, remain poised and ready to bring The Perfect Perch!! 8)
