I'm sure none of you pros out there ever do this, but I'm always forgetting to change my aperture/iso when switching from my 200 2.8L to my 400 f5.6L. That is what happened in this case which is why this was shot at f5.6 iso100. I wish my camera could remember a preset aperture/iso for a given lens. Anyway I wish I had more dof in this shot. Needless to say the bird had flown the coop by the time I realized.

20d/400 f5.6L
Focal Length 400 mm
Exposure Time 1/500 sec
Aperture f/5.6
ISO Equivalent 100
Exposure Bias -1/3

A very nice capture. Lots of retained details in the whites.

This is a really cool pose with the bow and windswept breeding plumes, plus the red lores and feet. The dof doesn't bother me as much as the fact that it's overall a bit dark, and the bill and legs almost merge in to the bg. I bet some work with curves or shadow/highlight could make this pop more.

A very minor nit is the bill getting a little lost in the BG, but a beautiful image in spite of that.

you're right Cindy, it looks to dark, here is a quick and rough redo. I'll admit i'm no good with curves so I adjusted levels and used a screen layer, plus a little contrast.

Very nice. I would never have noticed your concern but, I wish the bill was more noticeable. I can see why these birds were almost hunted to extinction.
