I saw someone's 5,000th post. WOW! Well here is my first on this site. Taken at Edinburg World Birding Center. Took advantage of a high water level and caught this grebe milling in, out, around, etc. the cactus. Arthur Morris was kind enough to look at it since he was just here doing a seminar and at his suggestion, I cloned out a particular specular highlight. Hope you like it. I tried to post earlier but think I did it wrong so here goes again.

Hey Kevin. Welcome to NSN. I fixed your post so that it lined up on the left.

A nice first post of a tough species to get. The bird looks a bit crowded, but it does show some great habitat. I'm not sure if that's a copyright symbol or not, but it's a bit distracting. Maybe placing it somewhere else on the image would help. Look forward to you next post.

Grebe's in Prickly Pear - who'd a thunk!? A cool shot. Welcome aboard.

I think if you crop out the bottom fourth of the picture, it would be more pleasing. Too much clutter down there.

Very nice first post. You've got a great bird....and with an interesting habitat. I think a little cropping would be in order if possible. Welcome to NSN.....it's a great place to learn!!

welcome aboard! I agree with cropping out the bottom part that is out of focus. Great exposure on the bird! Looking forward to seeing your next post :D

Welcome to NSN, Kevin. Nice first post to kick it off. I like the habitat included. I agree on the copyright. Where it is placed is very distracting.

Welcome! It is definitely unusual to see a waterfowl in cactus like this! I agree with Rob's crop suggestion, at least eliminate the most out of focus stuff at the very bottom. Well done- and unusual- environmental shot.

Thanks for all of the comments. I agree with the crop suggestions now that I have seen it from everyone else's eyes. I apologize for the copyright symbol. I know it's distracting but I'm still using elements and haven't figured out how to make it less distracting. I'm going to upgrade to CS in the near future so hopefully that will change. Also, thanks for making a new guy to the sites feel welcome.
