This week I made a special sojourn to Osceola County to locate and photograph a Caracara; Jim Neiger has made me jealous.

While on my way to Overstreet Landing, I noticed this CC perched on a dead snag. Setting up shop from my van across the street, I photographed the CC using my 500mm with a 2x converter. I did not use flash as the last time out and in a similar situation, my first flash shot scared the bird and off it flew.

I ended up with a high-contrast image that took some work to lower the highlights, recover the shadows and get the colors to what I remember them as. During the 50 minutes that I photographed the CC I was witness to 9 really glorious stretches. I think this was the best of all the positions I captured.

Awesome!!! Great light!!! I love the pose, a little head turn would make this one a super shot. A bit tight for me.

Robert,

Wow, beautiful light and a fantastic wing stretch. A few less shadows and just a little more room around the bird might improve the image, but this is an excellent shot.

Just beautiful, Robert. Selective sharpening would avoid the halos.

Robert:

The sweet light is awesome and I love the posture a lot, I took the liberty to tweak a little. Hopefully looks better, not there was a bad image to begin with.

Beautiful shot!! A bit more room and selective sharpening to avoid the halos would improve it dramatically imo!!

This is splendid. Absolutely love the wing spread. I've been contemplating Florida this spring, and these guys are one of the reasons why. Great shot.

Great wing and tail positions. A little Shadow/Highlight tool will help bring out a little more detail in the shadows.
