*Edit*

Made suggested crop and added some USM. I'm having a hard time seeing the halo here at work. I'll take a look at home and see if I can fix it.

Another SoCal image. This Black Phoebe was catching insects buzzing around the piles of kelp nearby.

Luckily, it came back to the same perch a couple of times.

Canon D30, Canon 600mm f/4, ISO 200.

Terry, very nice. Good anticipation on where he lands. Looks a bit soft. Some more USM should do it and I'd also take a bit off bottom, so the top edge of the rock touches the left corner. I'm also seeing a slight light halo around the bird, perhaps from using the Shadow recovery tool. Nice BG.

What Alan said. A bit tighter crop to get those oof rocks out and you have a keeper.

Very nice Phoebe in an unusual pose. I would crop on the bottom and left. Maybe a little selective sharpening.

Hey Terry. Nice bird, the sharpness is a little off and the contrast on the fg is a little distracting. I do see a distinct halo around the bird's head.

One of my favorite birds! I like the crop as shown (repost I believe), makes a nice composition.

The halo around the bird may well be a result of using the S/H tool ...

The perch is salt and sand encrusted sandstone. I'll have to rework the image again and see if I can do better.
