First post here, and fairly new in photographing, so dead honest crits are welcome since I am still on the learning curve.

Caught this guy today with 20D, 100-400mm lens, heandheld, 1/1600 sec, f6.3. Virgina.

I hope the image will be shown, otherwise could the moderator help me to post it?

Is it too hot? The white seems blown a bit, but I hate to see a dark image. Advices?

Thanks in advance,

Kai

Killer action shot, Kai. Selectively sharpen the bird a bit and remove the branch in the middle to improve.

I just noticed the halo, so going back to the beginning in sharpening, selectively, would be appropriate.

Thanks, guys.

Sorry for the dumb question, what is sharpening halo? If you can't explain it in few words, can you point me a link? Or amybe can you circle it on my image?

Thanks in advance,

Kai

Kai, an awesome first post. I agree with cloning out the middle branch. If you look closely, you will see a light halo, which is about 1 or 2 pixels in dept, on the leading edge of the lower wing. This is caused from sharpening when contrast is added to edges to look sharper. Hope this
helps.

Here's a link on sharpening.

Kai:

Welcome to NSN, I see great potential here, unusual angle for one, appears that the light was harsh with deep shadows, that is when PS higlight/Shadows tools became very handy.

A good first post and welcome to NSN, Kai!
An interesting angle indeed. Would clone out the mid branch below. Way over sharpened hence the halo which has already been commented on ...
