Slaty-forked forktail Enicurus schistaceus

Tai Po Kau, Dec-11-2004

EOS 10D, EF500mm f/4 L IS USM, EF1.4x II, f/8, manual 1/80, ISO800, 550EX manual, BB, tripod, camera RAW, PS7 level, Noise Ninja, 67% of original.

Fortails are found in fresh-water stream and well, they are rarely seen here. I was told there would be one every several years. Thank for another birder who hinted its presence.

This guy was very cooperative and actually it tried to approach the lens. Sorry about the use of flash as main light for the location was pretty dark, despite it was bright daylight outside.

This is the "regular" pose.

Thank you for viewing and please comment (bruntly).

I think you did very well here. The pose and perch are nice and the whites on the bird look good. I would consider toning down the feet and the background above the bird, especially the tan twig above the base of the tail

You handled the flash work very well, IMO. I would try to tone the bright area in the upper right corner.

The leaf in the bg is a touch distracting, also depending on where you cropped from and what was there a little more space in front of the bird would have been nice.
These are not major problems though, and I agree that you handled the flash well.

Excellent use of flash here, and a great photo.

Thanks, but how could I tone it down? :)

Ive never seen this bird before... very cool. Nice capture of an apparently rare bird for your area! I would try to blur the BG a little more to make the bird pop more.

Like the shot apart from the rather busy bg, Griffiin!
