Wow! What a lovely perch and BG! He looks like he's wearing a bandit's bandanna, huh? Well done. Alan!

Did it have to be named after you? Nice shot, Alan. The light on this is too sweet. Love that gorget.

Great one AM. I especially like the knitted brow in his expression. Wonderful graduated bg but the perch is not your best!

Hey!! We've had Mike's Warbler and Mike's Snipe - now we've got YOUR Hummingbird!! - Nothing like keeping it in the family!!

I just love the delicacy of this tiny cocktail on a stick Alan. What a little darling - and love that 'don't you dare!!' expression. :) 8) 8) 8) 8)

That's tremendous! I love it all. Can you discuss your framing/cropping choices?

Good question.

Because the perch happens to be long and verticle and the bird is sitting somewhat verticle, it would make sense to make this a verticle comp. When choosing a vertical comp it's ok to place the subject in the center of the frame, as I did here. Placing him more right in the frame would have worked if there was another element in the photo, like another branch on the left.

Alan,

I have a feeder in my yard visited by very fierce acting Anna's, but this Allen's really looks fierce. I love the shot.

This is beautiful as always. And your composition is totally right. You're using the rule of thirds in a vertical format where the subject lies in the upper third. Good job!

Hu-hum, another great one. This bird isn't "yours" because he doesn't spell his name the same way.
