This was shot at the Least Tern reserve on Huntington Beach. This bird was just about 6 feet inside of the 3 foot fence that protects the area of the beach where they nest. Unfortunately, a friend told me that this particular egg was washed away at high tide.
I would never have believed that the tide would reach this spot as it was 100 feet from the water's edge when I shot this.
A lot of beach debris cloned out.

This is killer Richard. Too bad about the egg. This would have been a great spot to get shots of the youngster.

Nice image! Great habitat shot. It is nice to be able to see the egg and the depression of the nest. Sorry to hear about the loss. Thanks for sharing.

Hi, gorgeous bird; would loev to see repost with the debris, as I think the cloning is unfortunately intrusive. Great pic!

I don't think you meant the cloning is intrusive. If you saw the debris, you'd know what intrusive is

Well done, Richard. I love the angle of the bird in the frame and the fact that the egg is so visible. Is this is an experienced pair of Terns, they will probably re-nest. The same thing happened at a small nesting colony near Galveston, TX. They've already started moving back in with eggs on the ground. :D

Fantastic photo Richard. Excellent presentation of the bird and egg together. Sad to hear it was swept away.

Very nice shot from the Least Turn Colony... Steve Smith emailed a similar shot with the debris in place... You're right about the cloning. I especially like the detail in the whites and the egg. BTW, why don't you ever seem to give shooting details... was this the 600 ? I for one would be interested to know your exposure settings, etc. for your excellent images.
