Another of my images taken this past rainy week at the Jersey shore. I've seen these gulls in Maine and Newfoundland, but never realized they also were at the Jersey shore. I never paid any attention to them growing up in Jersey.

They were quite approachable and about 40% larger than herring gulls. This one is making off with a well picked over crab carcass.

10D, 100-400IS, EV- 1, flash at -1, ISO 200, cropped 10-15 %.

Comments and reposts welcome.

Terrific image, Jim. The poor weather is obvious, but a guy's got to eat!!!

This is excellent despite the poor weather condition, Jim!
The pose is so wonderful and looks as if this guy was stealing something ...

Very nice image. Exposure right on. Nothing like a fresh crab dinner at a seaside spot! Thanks for sharing.

Jim,
Great behavioral shot. The exposure looks right on the money - plenty of detail in both the whites and blacks.

This is a sweet shot of a bird i've yet to come across. They wander up here to MN but are not common. Very nicely exposed with detail in both the blacks and whites. That crab is massive!

Good catch....for you and the gull. An excellent shot all around. You handled the lighting very well....given there wasn't much.

ROFL. Reminds me of the movie, "Finding Nemo." My favorite part was the gulls and this one certainly fits their refrain: "Mine! Mine! Mine!" Well done.

Super shot, Jim. That's a possessive looking gull. The horizon appears askew.

Hard to believe he can eat that but I've seen gulls eat some amazing things. Great behavioral shot.

Jim,
Looks like you made the most of your overcast day. I like the gull with the crab.

Really nice catch (you and the bird). What really makes this image for me is the look of the bird creeping off with its meal, the stepping motion and look in its eye.

With so many recent posts from Jersey I am really going nuts to visit the coast and take some photos!

I have a few images in this kind of conditions. I'd be tempted to brighten the image a bit as the white could still be whiter. Then tweak the saturation a bit.
Interesting wing position and I love what's left of the crab. 8)
