Even when the light is not good the birds have been kind to me at La Jolla. Taken on a dark morning with heavy overcast about 10 days ago. There was a group of about 20 Semipalms roosting so I got low and waited. The darkish bg is a bit bothersome and the light could be better but the flash helped to add some life. Lightened with levels, cropped about 25% all around.

Great shot, and especially great catch with the wings! The warm colors and smooth shapes in both the foreground and background are just icing in the cake. Exposure look like a good choice as well.

Very, very sweet, Mike. Love the wing stretch and the detail under the wing. Also like the low angle and the dark BG which mirrors the brown colors on the bird. Perhaps a hair less flash to keep the central whites in bounds.

Wow, love the wing stretch! My favorite part about this is the tones, which I feel would be further improved with a tiny bit off the top of the frame to remove the blue. Just my opinion, of course it is striking as is! :)

Very nice mike. It looks as though he couldn't stretch his wings another millimeter.

Nice one Mike. The wing stretch is great. Being ready to capture it is even better. My whole body usually goes into a cramp waiting for these things to happen :D . The scan seems a liitle hot at the base of the wing but that's probably correctable.

Mike -

The subdued light and BG color combine with the color of the plover to make this an appealing image. The wing stretch tops it off.

Good job!

Mike,

Very nice shot. The pose is great. I like the patterns in the sand at the bottom of the frame.

Mike, it's all pretty much been said. A nice shot with low angle and nice tones and a real cool stretch.

Mike,
I think the dark BG really adds to this shot. Very nice work.

Mike,

Wonderful capture. The dark BG tones work well with the wing stretch.
