I have been interested in birds since I was a young boy. I took up photography right after graduating from college, and thought that bird photography would be a great way to combine my two hobbies.
I finally got good photography equipment when we moved to Texas about 20 years ago. South Texas, where I live, is one terrific location for both birding and bird photography. The spring of the year, when the migrants pass through on their way north, is fantastic. Another advantage of living down here is the close proximity of the beach, the Gulf of Mexico, and numerous bodies of water and marsh areas. We literally have birds suitable for photography 12 months a year.
I retired from teaching high school chemistry a few years ago and now have lots of time to devote to my photography and the birds.
