It's still pretty slow around here. I decided to go out Saturday to a local lake and work with the mallards and Canon 10D. There was only a small area that wasn't frozen so there were 100+ mallards. People often come to feed the ducks so they ventured from the water and ice to come ashore. The hard part was actually getting one that was isolated. I found this lovely lady taking a break in the snow. I shot this out the window of my SUV as it was 10 degrees and windy.....and I really hate the cold.

I'm just now starting to see what the 10D can do and I must say, it is certainly different than the 1D. It doesn't seem to take much to blow out images in good light.....and underexpose/oversaturate in late evening light. I like the images I get but certainly have a lot to figure out with it.

Lana, very nice portrait. I like the contrast between the cool blues in the snow and the warm colors of the duck.

What a pretty you lady. You handled the exposure very nicely.

The detail in the face is wonderful, too. The snow on the beak grabs your attention.

Good work, Lana. Stay warm. It will be 70F here today. :D

I'd say you are doing quite well with the 10D -- love the snow on the bill and some excellent light.

A lovely shot, Lana!
The first 10D picture I've seen from you!
I particularly like the warm light and the snow powder on its beak ...

Wonderful portrait. But, you have to stop feeding ducks popsicles to get closer to them.

Wow! Beautifully captured. Great light, Very sharp, perfectly exposed and she went and dipped her bill in the snow just to add to your image. That 10D can't be all that bad. Great shot!

Gorgeous, Lana. Mallards are just not always so easy ( as we might think, huh). Really really, lovely. :!: :!: :!:
