I was playing with this image tonight and thought I'd post it here and see what kind of reaction it gets. No digital manipulation other than cropping, curves, and some USM. All comments appreciated, thanks.

Cheers

Carl

Carl---I think this looks great. It's moody, soft and representational. Is this some kind of flash effect?

Quite unusual to see the shadow and I wonder what causes it?
Is the tech data available???

Its very cool but I would do a shot like this with no USM at all - as is there are sharpening lines in various places on the bird which for a blur like this doesn't seem right.

Hey Carl, this is really interesting if you ask me. Homer? What is the cause of the resulting effect? Whatever it is I like it, though I agree with E.J. on the sharpening. I like the inclusion of the water at the bottom and the color of the sky.

Hey folks,

Thanks for the comments. The image is a very simple double exposure, one sharp and one thrown OOF. No flash was used. E.J., I think what you're seeing as sharpening lines on the bird are the edges of the bird reflecting direct light. I have a number of backlit eagles that show this.

Cheers

Carl
