This type of image probably can't be obtained if you go to SGI or Antarctica in January because the snow has melted about the colonies. I'm not sure exactly where it was taken on my trip but it's a pose I rarely saw.

EOS3, 100-400IS, Provia F100

Cute! We don't see too many penguins here! I expect this Motif will be interesting...

I like the detail in the snow, while still maintaining some detail in the blacks.

Excellent behavioral pose, they slide and paddle since it makes it easier for them to travel the long distances between shore and the nesting rookery , much better and efficient than walking!!
The texture on the snow if "A1", and the exposure is dead on!!!
I only wish I was there as well!!!
