Out on the Pawnee Grasslands yesterday. Windy all day until one hour before sunset. Out there the birds of prey stay out of sight on the ground when the wind blows but as soon as it stops they start to appear. This was a very cooperative femal Richardson's Merlin that posed for me for about 10 minutes. I think it was because she had just finished a meal and seemed to be pretty satiated. Anyway, I think this is my best photo yet. What a wonderful combintation for the 500 and a 2x extender.

Hey Rob,
This is a great shot! If I had to look for something I'd say it looks just a bit oversharpened on my monitor but that's minor. I'd love to have this one myself!

By the way, I meant to mention that I love the soft sidelighting here much more than direct over the shoulder light on this one.

I'd love to have this one for my birds on post file. Nice shot of a difficult subject.

Beautiful bird and a wonderful image.

I don't see any oversharpening.

Gets a wow from me. I'm not exactly blown away by the perch, but everything above it more than makes up for it.

Fantastic! Looks perfect to me... not oversharpened. I too like the sidelighting. The raised foot puts it over the top.
