Banded Sandhill Crane

I'm posting this image because I was amazed how old this bird is. According to Bosques resident Crane expert this Crane is 27-30 years old he could tell that because the band was one of the original bands used.

Canon 1D 500mm f4 1.4x, Tripod Ball head Sidekick Leveling head, Manual exposure using incident meter -1/3 1/1250 @ f8, Auto focus.

Interesting image. Large birds live quite a long time. Macaws live for 50 or 60 years.

Interesting. Doesn't look too comfortable to me. Do you know what the material is? A lightweight aluminum maybe? I would imagine it has to be somewhat expandable.
