I pulled this old image out of my files after shooting this tree again yesterday under similar conditions. It's one of my favorite trees--I love it for its resilience and the way it's adapted to its environment. Can't remember the technical details, but it was shot about a mile from home on Max Patch in Pisgah National Forest, NC, probably using Fuji Reala, a Nikon 6006, a Nikon 24-120 lens, and a tripod.

Hammer away! Comments and critiques always welcome.

Lori, Great to see your posts again! :) The white hoarfrost against the vivid blue is very nice. I really like this composition.

Lori,

This is wonderful!!

I think it could have been even stronger without the tree to the far left, but that's minor. Great shot!

Hi Lori,

I was just wondering the other day whether you had disappeared forever! :) This is a beautiful shot. I love the cold, crisp feel of the blue and the ice. The leaning tree and the curve of the land work well together.

Looking forward to more posts ...

Hi Lori,

Great to see you posting here! I was wondering if you'd been blown off your mountain perch.

Nicely done photo! The angle of the tree is perfect to convey the feel of the harsh winds that must blow over this slope.

Wonderful tree, colors and the grass brings out the details in the tree.

Lotta power in this one Lori. Very crisp and cold feeling. Love the lean to the tree. This might be a good subject for a series of images under different conditions or at different times of the year. Nice one.

A cold morning indeed - reminds me of WY. I enjoy the comp Lori. The gradation of the blue sky is also very appealling. I see worm trails around the tree but that might be a compression issue - and yes it is nice to see an image of yours again :D
