A very common bird with uncommon feather beauty and detail. A mallard from one of the local nature
centers. I was trying to capture as much detail as possible.

Canon 20D, Canon 600mm f/4, 1/1000 @ f/11, FF -1 1/3

Admire your creativity here Terry... Sorry to say it just doesn't work for me. Personal opinion, others may like it alot! :)

Terry,

These types of shots aren't tried often enough. Someone should suggest this as a motif to Mr. Murphy.

I can't tell just from looking, but is the Green channel clipped in some areas? I'm getting the impression of either the contrast being a little too high or perhaps of oversharpening; not sure.

Mike

I think it might have been the light due to the time of day - about noon. I barely hit it with any USM - 2 passes - 100, .8,2 & 100, .2,2 like someone I know recommended ;-)

I don't recall messing with the saturation level in Photoshop, but might have the saturation set too high in BB. I did not add any contrast.

Regards,

Terry

Nice composition, depth of field, and sharpness. It works for me.

I like the idea but the image seems very pasty to me?

Here is a question. Can you see the pupil in the eye of the duck? On my monitor here at home I can. At work I can't. I can see mulitple water drops at home too, at work not the case.

I have a CRT Viewsonic 21" ultrabrite A91f+ that is calibrated with Spyder2 Pro calibration. I hate to go to all the work of showing great detail if it is lost due to monitor difference.

Very interesting. Looks sharp but could be sharper I think. I can see the pupil fine. I love to try these kinds of shots. Not easy to do.
