Shot late afternoon in La Jolla.
This guy was scratching his head before the water snuck up on him.

Cool shot with a different feel to it. Your bird is a Black-bellied Plover.

Agree with Mike -- a cool shot with a different feel to it! It looks like there's a halo around the bird though.

Well composed, Jason!
Perhaps a little over sharpened ...

Very nice shot, Jason! I would crop just a bit more to get rid of the dark area in the upper left corner or spend a few minutes with the dodge tool.

Great composition.

Thanks for sharing!

.... in non-breeding plumage !!!! Excellent feel to the image I was thinking in getting lower but would loose the gorgeous water !!!!

I'm sure you can select the bird/parts of the bird and use shadow/hightlight to give it a little more pop It is a magnificent image well worth working !!!! Can pm the DC mods for some suggestions Big Congrats Jason!!! :)

In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is.

Black-Bellied Plover Jason.

I shoot this type of shot a lot at Canaveral National Seashore and just yesterday as a matter of fact.

You could do H/S in Photoshop to bring up the Plover but I like it as is as well. I like the sand in the FG and the immediate BG of golden water. I would lose about 1/8 to 1/4 off the top.

I really like the mood set by the color of the water. A slight head would be nice, but I like it as is.
