Bee-eaters are definitely one of the most photogenic birds in the world (see earlier Rainbow BE post by Nevil). Singaporeans are lucky in that the Blue-throated BE migrates there from Indonesia to breed from April. When they move on in August, their place is taken by the Blue-tailed BE. Imagine that, BE's almost year round and not just one variety!

I was lucky enough in June of this year to have found this with a very good Singaporean nature photographer, PE Chng, who very kindly took me to see this bird. The Lyssa Zampa is really a nocturnal Giant Uranid Moth that is usually found in dark forests and, perhaps not so strangely, indoors. So, how and why this moth was where we were remains a mystery. Whatever the reasons, I think we probably witnessed something special and both our shutters fired away non-stop!

1D2, 500mm plus 2.0X, 1/400 @ f9, ISO320, +2/3EV, FF -2/3, Sidekick, behind car as blind, morning slightly overcast tropical skies, cropped for composition.

I have been having some problems with my monitor (blue cast) and I am not sure if this has been fixed or not. Thanks for looking, and suggestions most welcome.

Great shot. But to tell you the truth, I wish he hadn't caught such a beautiful insect--- That moth has those long tails like our luna moth---I think I would try increasing the saturation of the backround a little.

Beautiful bird, but its the moth that really makes the image. Great work. Maybe you can tweak the sky color a bit so it doesn't look so overcast?

What an awesome shot of this bee-eater... getting it with an impressive moth (sadly as its meal) is doubly photo worthy. You are right that BE's are some of the most photogenic birds around, and you have a very worthy image here.

I do not see a blue cast on my screen, and like the exposure and color tone as presented. The composition with the bird, prey and perch is excellent.

The large moth steals the show here ...
An excellent shot, Kwan!
Color looks pretty good too. The image may benefit from a very slight boost in contrast IMHO.
Thanks for sharing the bg story on the BE too!

I am guessing, but I'd say about 30% has been discarded from the full-frame. It appears that I took off about this amount off the vertical side. Does that make sense??

I did try to increase saturation on the BG, but with no or little improvement. I shall see if boosting Contrast might be the ticket.

Many thanks to all!

That's a real beauty. I'd prefer the subjects just a little lower in the frame.
