If someone would be so kind as to identify this gull it will be deeply appreciated. The image was captured back in May of this year in the Lake Kissimmee area of Central Florida.

Nikon D2X, 500mm lens, 1/1600 @ f9, ISO 400

Thanks for the assistance.

Hugh

Hi Hugh

This is a 1st summer Ring-billed Gull &, as captured in May, would make it just under a year old.

The bird is almost centrally placed in the frame, so I would suggest a crop along the RHS to allow for the perceived R to L movement. A rule of thumb I generally use is at least twice as much space in front of flying bird as behind.

A nice image.

the ratty plumage is unfortunate here but this is a nice shot otherwise.

While the above is true as a rule of thumb, in this case the right wing is pointing at the corner of the frame giving this image a strong composition as is, which would be weakend by croping from the right. It's also worth mentioning that while the head is centrally, the body is sat off center anyway.

This is of course only my opinion...

Nice one Hugh, agree with the 1st Summer Ring-billed Gull ID..

crop-wise, I lie somewhere between your and Wayne's, for a print on the wall, your crop is perfect, for a web-post, I'd go tighter to see more details in the bird...

All the best,

Nice image, I would crop it a bit tighter though. Agree with the Ring-billed Gull ID.
