Black-bellied Plover with Crayfish.
Image

During the Duluth Nature-escape last weekend we came upon a this Plover and a Ruddy Turnstone attacking a crayfish. While the Turnstone was quite aggressive in pursuing the prize, the Plover was reticent and seemed almost afraid of it.

Edit: Darkened a tad per Ofer's suggestion.

Steve,
Great depth of field - crawdad is in a good spot to balance the image. Good to meet you this past weekend.

Love that expression with tilted head while staring at the prey ...
A wonderful shot, Steve!

Wonderful image Steve !!! Love the low angle and bg Sweet !!! 8) 8) 8) The one thing that gives me trouble is having the bird look out of the frame (short side) and the crayfish is also moving away ? Do love the image as presented !!!! 8)

Thanks Al, not sure what you mean, "look out of the frame", as the bird is looking down at the Crawfish, in frame?

Steve,
I LOVE this one, Steve. "I've got my eye on you" pose makes it cute as well.

The light isn't that great, no spectacular action, but you got low, found an interesting subject with its prey, add some fill and its really a great image. Well done.
