Canon 1Ds Mark II 100-400 IS Lens 1/250 f22 ISO 200 Multiflash Technique. Nogales Arizona

In Hummingbird Photography as explained by Chas and Greg we need to counteract the tendency for artificial light to flatten the image. The real beauty is to provide a 3-D look as we are accustomed to see it in natural light.

It can be accomplished if we use multiple sources of light with different strenghts and directions. However one , the dominant one should mimic the sun and usually should be placed higher and to the side to generate a catchlight either at 10:00 or 2:00 PM on the face of a clock.

I hope you enjoy, all brutal comments are appreciated, thanks for looking.

This is wonderful, Juan. One of my favorites of yours, and that is saying a lot. Love the angle on the bird with spread tail.

The fanned tail and the colorful flower make this image for me. Beautiful shot Juan.

Wonderful Juan, congratulations. I might suggest taking some off the top to put the bird higher in the frame. Nice work on the flash and the explanation sure helps understand how you accomplish the result.

Nice image Juan, the lighting has worked quite well. I notice there is some blur on the wingtips which I like and would even suggest increasing the natural light component slightly to enhance that feature.

Juan, Perfection. Per your usual. I wonder, do you get a wide variety of hummers in Corpus Christi.

Beautiful Juan. Great pose. Assuming the BG is artificial, my preference would be for it to not be so uniform in color. Great technique

A beautiful shot! Where did you guys shoot in Nogales? I've photographed birds at nearby Patagonia Lakes SP and watched the hummies at Paton's in Patagonia. Just curious.

Juan, this is a great example of the technique applied masterfully! Congrats as this is one of my favorites of yours.

Alan we were at Jessie Hendrix's house - an extremely kind and gracious older gentleman BTW.

He was featured in Attenborough's "The Life of Birds" series.
