Jim N has inspired me to try hand holding the 500mm lens, and this is the result. More practice is needed to enure more 'keepers', but that will come with time. The great work by Fab and others has also influenced my decision.

This was taken August 8, 2005 at Fort Desoto at 5:00 pm.

What do you think???

Comments are alway helpful and appreciated.

Nikon D2X, 1/1600 @ f9, 500mm lens, ISO 400

Thanks for looking.

Hugh

Copycat :P :P :P :P :P :P

I'm glad you are joining the club, my friend. It's doable.
I know we miss some shots this way, but it sure is lots of fun not to be tripod bounded.
BTW, I will NOT lend you my belt

Excellent :!:

Welcome to the club. This photo is a great start. The other day, I was holding another photographer's 500 in my other hand and they make great dumbells.

You did very well. Good shutter speed as this I find is the most important element in flight shooting when it's fast.
