Is this a photo from the Hubble telescope of Jupiter??? WOAH! You really get the feel and shape of this bark. Great. Was there any saturation changes made?

My reaction is...COOL! I like the layers, the detail, and the patterns. Did you get any without the darker layer? It would be interesting to see one focused on the dark reds (not that it would be better, I just think it would be interesting to see).

Great combination of colours, textures and patterns here Simon. A simple subject, but very effective image. Very nice!

Hubble shot of Jupiter? I didn't see that myself, but now that you mention it. . .
This is Way Cool! I couldn't help but thinking that if you softened it up (or something, I've never played w/ PShop,) this could be one heck of a landscape.
Great "eye" to see this. I love it.

A special thanks for all the comments, they are very much appreciated.

Vadim, beyond using Velvia there were no saturation changes made to the image. Further, the reality very closely matches the image.

Heather, yes, as I really liked the texture and color of this subject and I did shoot other images, some which do not include the black area; however, on the light table I kept gravitating to the image I posted, though I have no idea why it, and not some of the other compositions.

I agree with all above comments. This is a great photograph that really took vision to imagine and execute. Very nicely done.

Lots of colorful and well-defined detail make a beautiful pattern. This works for me!
