A magnificent male in spring plumage. I made this image with the idea to frame the bird with the spring foliage. I was especially conscious of wanting to frame the head and chest. The pink and the black+white stand out well against the greens of the leaves. The background is soft and warm-toned consists of last years fallen spruce needles. My goal was to make an image as a wall-hanging piece, one where color and form was as important as the subject. I think the main challenge was to have the folliage weave into the composition without drawing the eye away or disrupting the view of the bird. Thanks for your thoughts.

Paul,
A fine example of a male rose-breasted grosbeak with none of the mottling that we sometimes see. The only negative here is the inability to see the eyes adequately. A smidge cropped off the right might help also. Well-exposed and lovely complimentary background.

Well done, just a bit tight on the composition and needs more DOF to get the rest of the body and tail sharp.

I think **** the bird right in the frame would improve the comp.
