Jasper National Park, Elan 7, 28-135 IS, Tripod, Sensia 100. Metered at 1/15 (aperture unknown) but I made four exposures at 1/60 instead for the same overall exposure, but I think it makes for a neat effect. What do you think?

This was from three or four weeks ago. Tonight I'll be picking up the first six rolls from Saturday at Elk Island (Bison and Porcupine) with our FFM moderators and Sunday at Jasper (Moose and Bighorns) with Dennis & Cheryl plus Chas, Tom, and the gang . I've got to get a couple of shots in here (hopegfully starting tomorrow) before they get back online and flood FFM with shots!

An interesting effect Paul. Not sure that it works for me tho :( For me, the grass is too "sharp", making it look like a shakey shot. Does that make sense ? Perhaps a slower shutter would have softened the grass a little more.

But hey, Kudos for getting out there and trying something different. :)

Cool, I bet it would be even better at 1/15 sec.

Fantastic concept, and I love the hues. Kind of neat how there's movement on some areas but not others. It would be interesting to see the difference at a slower shutter speed, too.

I didn't think there was enough motion in the grasses for a speed of 1/15 to impart motion--it would just make it a bit soft. That's why I elected to try the four shots instead.

Neat shot, Paul. This technique would definitely be worth experimenting with alot more. I like what you've shown here, but think a little more blur would make it better. Maybe next time you'll have more breeze. I'd be interested in seeing more!

Interesting concept and interesting effect. What I like is the movement of the grasses in the middle contrasted with the apparent stationarity of the grasses in the foreground. IMO it would work much better if the grasses at the top were sharp as well to really invert the standard of foreground and background OOF with the middle in. Great color to work with.

I hadn't really looked at it that way, but you're absolutely right. The effect has given more of a sense of motion in the middle grasses because they're further away and the resolution is reduced. The near grasses, however, really show the multiple exposure effect--each blade is shown multiple times, each of which is sharp. I think if (when) I do this again, I'll use more exposures--that should improve the motion effect, I think.

Hey Paul, it was great meeting you again in Jasper. I like the creative thought process used here, and I think the others have given some excellent advice on how you can improve this already fine image.

Best and hope to meet up again in the future,

Chas
